Consumo de café e incidencia de diabetes 2 en hombres y mujeres con tolerancia normal a la glucosa: El estudio «Strong Heart»


Este es un estudio de cohorte prospectiva cuyo objetivo era examinar la asociación entre el consumo de café y la incidencia de diabetes tipo 2 en personas con niveles normales de tolerancia a la glucosa de una población con alta incidencia y prevalencia de la enfermedad. Para esto, los investigadores recolectaron información sobre el consumo de café de los participantes en la línea de base y durante el seguimiento, que duró un promedio de 7,6 años. La incidencia de diabetes fue calculada y comprada entre las diferentes categorías de consumo. Los resultados del estudio evidenciaron que, en comparación con aquellos que no toman café, los que consumen 12 o más tasas al día tienen 67 % menos riesgo de desarrollar diabetes.
